Bring your own key
Connect your own model provider, from Anthropic and OpenAI to Google, Azure, Bedrock, and more, with your own API key, for unlimited usage.
Alongside the built-in Morbium Auto model, you can connect your own model provider. Use this for a specific model, or for unlimited usage billed to your own account. Your API key stays on your machine.
Why bring your own key
- Unlimited usage. Your provider bills you directly; Morbium's daily budget does not apply.
- A specific model. Pick exactly the model you want for a task.
- Your account, your data. Requests go straight from your machine to the provider.
Supported providers
Morbium bundles a wide set of providers, including:
Anthropic, OpenAI, Google (Gemini and Vertex), Azure OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, xAI, Mistral, Groq, Cerebras, DeepInfra, Cohere, OpenRouter, Together, Perplexity, Vercel, Alibaba, GitHub Copilot, and Cloudflare, among others.
Connect a provider
The quickest way is from the model selector:
- Open the model selector next to the composer, or go to Settings and the Providers tab.
- Choose Connect provider and pick your provider.
- Paste your API key.
That is it. The provider's models now appear in the model selector, and your key is stored locally on your machine.
Connect in config
You can also configure providers in your config under the provider key, which is handy for sharing settings across a team (without the key) or pointing at a custom endpoint. Keys can be read from environment variables so they never live in the file:
{
"provider": {
"anthropic": {
"options": { "apiKey": "{env:ANTHROPIC_API_KEY}" }
}
}
}
Many providers also pick up their standard environment variable automatically, so setting, for example, OPENAI_API_KEY in your shell is enough.
Choosing which providers show
If you only use a couple of providers, you can narrow the list:
{
"enabled_providers": ["anthropic", "openai"]
}
Or hide specific ones with disabled_providers. See Config.
