Core concepts

Sessions and the workspace

How a Morbium session works: the composer, the workspace tabs for your board, parts list and 3D model, the terminal, and tracking file changes.

Everything you build in Morbium happens inside a session. A session is a single conversation with the AI, scoped to one project folder. You describe what you want, the AI works, and the results show up around you.

The composer

The composer is the input box at the bottom of a session. You type what you want to build and press enter. A few controls sit alongside it:

  • Agent selector. Pick which specialist handles your request. The default is Build. See Agents.
  • Model selector. Shows the active model, Morbium Auto by default. See Models.
  • MCPs. Connect external tools through MCP servers.
  • Attach. Add files or images as context.

You can type / for commands and @ to reference a file or folder as context.

The workspace panel

The panel on the right is your workspace. It has a row of tabs, and each artifact tab appears only once the AI has created that kind of file, then surfaces itself the first time. The tabs are:

  • Files. A file explorer for the project, shown as a grid. Opening a file opens it in your operating system's default app.
  • PCB. A live 2D and 3D view of your board, with a switcher when you have more than one. See Designing boards.
  • BOM. Your bill of materials as a table, with buttons to price and source parts. See Bill of materials.
  • Fabricate. A 3D viewer for enclosures and parts, with STL export. See 3D models.
  • Changes. A review panel showing every file the AI modified, as a diff. You can switch the file tree between Changes (modified files) and All files.
  • Context. A breakdown of how much of the model's context window the session is using.

The terminal

A terminal is available from a small button in the corner of the workspace. It is a real shell in your project folder. It stays alive when you hide it, so a long-running command keeps going in the background. The terminal is separate from the chat, so you can run commands yourself at any time.

Tabs, forking, and projects

The strip at the top holds your open sessions as tabs. You can:

  • Reorder tabs by dragging them.
  • Rename a session.
  • Fork a session to branch off from a point in the conversation and try a different direction without losing the original.

A project is a folder on your machine. You can open an existing folder or create a new project, and switch between projects from the app.

Tracking changes

Morbium takes snapshots as the AI works, so you always know exactly what changed. The Changes tab shows a diff of every modified file. This makes it safe to let an agent work: you can review everything before you keep it, and your version control still sees normal file changes.

Next steps

  • Agents: the specialists that do the work.
  • Tools: what the AI can actually do.
  • Permissions: approving what the AI is allowed to do.
